The Early Cretaceous is punctuated by carbon cycle perturbations, associated with organic matter burial episodes and carbonate production crises. These events coincide with short-term cooling (<1Ma), yet the mechanisms are still unclear, because of low resolution in sea surface temperature reconstructions. Abstract Kinetics of the correlated annealing of pairs of neutral (F-H) Frenkel defects in the KBr crystal is treated theoretically, taking into account defect diffusion, and annihilation at short distances stimulated by an elastic interaction. It is shown that an elastic interaction affects the annealing kinetics and the survival probability of close geminate detects considerably. The widespread description of the correlated annealing in terms of a first-order reaction fails for close defects yielding effective energies which in fact differ essentially from an activation energy of diffusion. This article relates loneliness to interaction ritual theory, understanding loneliness in terms of problematic microinteractional dynamics. The advantage of interaction ritual theory is that it extends our understanding of the issue of the psychologised self and related questions such as how loneliness feels or is experienced. Loneliness is here defined as a response to interaction representing relational understanding of emotions. Interaction ritual theory is interested in the emotional consequences that individuals experience from successful or unsuccessful interaction rituals. Convergence of density-matrix expansions for nuclear interactions

We extend density-matrix expansions in nuclei to higher orders in derivatives of densities and test their convergence properties. The expansions allow for converting the interaction energies characteristic to finite- and short-range nuclear effective forces into quasi-local density functionals. We also propose a new type of expansion that has excellent convergence properties when benchmarked against the binding energies obtained for the Gogny interaction.

A method for quantification of the fine particle dose of lactose is described, using a hydrophilic interaction chromatography (HILIC) method and evaporative light scattering detection. The HILIC method used an aminopropyl column and a mobile phase consisting of acetonitril/water (80/20, v/v) for isocratic elution. Sensitive chromatography was obtained using a low concentration of water in the extraction solvent. The detection limit (RSD10%) at an injection volume of 10 microL is 10 microg/mL. Linearity was obtained in the range of 10-80 microg/mL (R(2)0.99). A relative standard deviation (RSD) of 0.5% (N=6) demonstrated good precision of the optimized method.

A bio-metal-organic framework (bio-MOF) derived from the amino acid L-serine has been prepared in bulk form and evaluated as sorbent for the molecular recognition and extraction of B-vitamins. The functional pores of bio-MOF exhibit high amounts of hydroxyl groups jointly directing other supramolecular host-guest interactions thus providing the recognition of B-vitamins in fruit juices and energy drinks. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction studies reveal the specific B-vitamin binding sites and the existence of multiple hydrogen bonds between these target molecules and the framework. We consider a dilute homogeneous mixture of bosons and spin-polarized fermions at zero temperature. We first construct the formal scheme for carrying out systematic perturbation theory in terms of single particle Green's functions. We introduce a new relevant object, the renormalized boson-fermion T-matrix which we determine to second order in the boson-fermion s-wave scattering length. We also discuss how to incorporate the usual boson-boson T-matrix in mean-field approximation to obtain the total ground state properties of the system.
